Young Women Suffering from Arthritis at a Greater Risk of Broken Bones

provailen, Arthritis Pain Relief, arthritis diet, arthritis in hands, lower back pain treatment, knee arthritis, degenerative arthritis According to a recent study, women with arthritis are more vulnerable to bone breakage in comparison to those not struggling from the disease. While it is known that arthritis improves the danger of fractures among mature people, the research has shown that the danger dominates among women below the age of 50 as well. To prevent this, it is essential for young women to take preventive measures. These include not smoking, consuming adequate amounts of vitamin D and calcium, and being actually active.

The research led by Shreyasee Amin, an MD and affiliate lecturer of rheumatology in Oregon at the Mayonnaise Medical center, revealed that ladies with the situation experienced double the danger of fractures in comparison to women without it.

According to Joanne Jordan, MD, MPH and director of Thurston Arthritis Research Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the research is very essential. She opines that when young women are clinically identified as having the situation, they are pre filled with managing the symptoms and fractures are often ignored. She further points out that steroid drugs, although just right, increase the danger of fractures.

Around 1.5 million people in America suffer from arthritis. People their Twenties and some even younger are seen to develop the situation, although it is typically associated with middle aged and older individuals. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when your defense mechanisms strikes the body's own cells and causes swelling. This results in pain, rigidity and long lasting joint damage.

The results of the research were presented at the annual gathering of the American College of Rheumatology. The medical records of 1,171 people, who were clinically identified as having arthritis between 1995 and 2007, were examined in the course of the research. About one-third of these were men. Their fractures rates were then matched to a similar number of ladies and men not struggling from the situation. 308 as well as 110 men with arthritis were below 50 years of age. All of them were noticed for about 9 years on an average.

  • Women struggling from arthritis were at a 63 % greater danger of getting a fractures than women not struggling from the situation.

  • Women above the age of 50 with arthritis were at 43 % greater danger of fractures than those not struggling from the situation.

  • Men struggling from the situation were at a 40 % greater danger of fractures than men not struggling from it.

  • Men above the age of 50 were at 34 % more danger of fractures than men without arthritis.

This could be connected to the use of steroid drugs or even the situation itself. Amin states that the swelling caused by arthritis impacts bones cells and results in bone loss. It could also be connected to the reduced exercising in women with arthritis and the increased propensity to fall. But none of these aspects can be designated. Most probably all the aspects play some adding role.
